Pretty bored today. So I'm wondering what kind of cars everybody here grew up in.
The simple rules are: The cras you remember until you got your license/left home. So basically everything until you where about 16-20.
My list (I believe I have to order right, some might have flipped) The colors are as I remember them:
Ford Taunus TC3
Opel Rekord E:
Citroën BX11:
SEAT Marbella L:
Opel Omega:
Opel Astra station:

1987 Toyota Camry
1993 Dodge Shadow (exact same as this but 4 door)
1998 Mercury Mystique

Subaru L-series (Leone) Wagon, 4wd, manual, 2 liter gas engine if I remember correctly, white.
Peugeot 806, manual, 2 liter diesel, dark red.
Peugeot 307, auto, 2 liter diesel, pretty much the same color has pictured.
My father also always had a van, so here's the compilation :
Ford Transit Mk I, which was an ambulance before he bought it, no idea of the technical aspects, I was very young.
Volkswagen LT 35 1st gen pre-facelift, I6 non-turbo diesel, 4 speed manual, white.
Volkswagen LT 35 1st gen post-facelift, I6 non-turbo Diesel, 5 speed manual, white (I actually got this one now).
Volkswagen LT 28 2nd gen, 2.8 liter I4, manual, dark blue. Most unreliable piece of garbage I've ever experienced.
His current van : Fiat Ducato 3rd gen, 3 liter I4, auto, light blue.

One of these Subarus. It was utter shite yet my dad thought buying a hideously unreliable $800 car for an inexperienced driver with a young child in the pre-cell phone era was totally a good idea. Because it was $800.
Then came the 1987 190E 2.3, no 16Vs. Bought 2nd hand from some Asian guy with an E28 whose relative had to go back to the Philippines. This one lasted for a decade before parts costs made it unwise to keep it going, so it was sold to a mechanic. He swapped in a new engine and took it down to Guatemala where it now lives.
First "new" car. My mom's, anyway. After the 190E shat the bed, this entered our lives and never really left because it's still there. It was, however, too big for my mother to drive daily (I live in a densely packed city). So it's hibernating in the garage, ready for road trips.
Then came the Integra LS. It was perfect: easy to park and cheap to run. So naturally it lived the hardest life. Shunted a few times but it acted like nothing happened until an F150 t-boned it and put it out of its misery. It was unceremoniously parted out and I still find bits of it in my garage every so often.
And here we are, right at the end. A 2009 Camry LE that my dad decided we absolutely must have out of the blue. I learned to drive in this car and I passed my driving test in it. I've also redlined this car but not my super-high revving Honda. The damn thing barely fits into the garage and it's been banged up pretty hard as a result. My dog's done a good job of spreading his saliva across the interior.

I will certainly miss a few. In order
Corolla brought me home
Mom's Bug
Dad swaps the corolla for a more grown up car (Jetta)
Brother comes along and Mom decides the bug is too small (Colony Park)
3rd kid comes along so now the Jetta is too small...just go all out, Burb)
Then mom swaps into a Grand Caravan
Then that car is a POS so she...picks up another caravan for some reason
Then Dad picks up another Burb and we keep the old one which becomes my first car

And lastly, a base-model 2013 Hyundai Sonata in Sparkling Ruby Metallic with the camel interior (the appliance).

I grew up riding around in a 1988 Ford Aerostar. I guess it's pretty Jalop— RWD, 5-speed, brown "wagon". (I remember our van being a dark brown, not the beige pictured here.)
My kids (well, the first 2 at least) will grow up riding around in a 1998 Saturn SW2. It's a wagon, but that's the only Jalop mark it ticks. Wife can't drive stick and it's FWD. Although, it is cheap, which I suppose is Jalop-ish. Oh yeah, and it's an ugly purple.
And it's a way better car than the 1996 Golf it replaced.

Fox Body
My dad had some sort of 80s Buick I think it was a Regal
Escort Wagon (I hated it because the backseat was too small for 3 kids)
We had a CRAZY conversion van that my great grandfather built the shit out of on the inside. It was probably my favorite vehicle we had growing up. Spinning captains chairs, backseats that turned into a bed and a god damn table.
New Beetle Turbo (second favorite because heated seats and boost)
Kia Sedona

1983 Toyota Crown MS112. I still remember the wine red velour seats
1989 Toyota Corolla EE90 and 1991 AE92. Yes, we had two of these.
1993 Honda Civic LX. Our first of many Hondas. Had a 1.5L carb
1994 Nissan Sentra B13. I remember the 4-CHANNEL ABS sticker on the rear doors
1997 Honda Civic LXI. I means fuel injection!
1997 Nissan Vanette. It was so underpowered it couldn't drive up the garage. Not kidding. At least it had cold aircon
1998 Honda City LXI. The cockroach. It's still with us. 93 horsepower of fury!
1999 Honda CR-V. Our first wagon on tall tires.
2004 Honda City i-DSI. The car that made me hate CVT. Worst. Honda. Ever.
All these cars were acquired before I got my license in 2007. Was able to drive the two Honda Citys and the CR-V.

Grew up with a variety, In order:
1985-1990 VW Fox (I forget the year, a big motivator in my field of interest, sat for the last years of its life. (not my photo, but car was identical to this)
1992 Pontiac LeMans - What a shitbox. It was a rental car previously too. again, not my pic.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
1995 Ford Taurus - I loved the rear-facing seats. The car was the only one in family ownership that broke down on the highway, not my pic.
1994 Mazda MX-6 LS - I want one, and it was the "best" car my dad has ever owned (not my photo either).
1999 Pontiac Trans-Sport Montana - This van was fun, although it had a crappy safety rating, we never crashed it. a P/S leak sprung when it was parked after we got its replacement, an Odyssey, not my pic either.
2004 VW Jetta TDI Sport Edition - By far the rarest car we've ever owned (1 of 2000, Canada exclusive). Most economical too by far. This is the same car in my avatar.

My mom had a blazer like this, but red, until I was about 5 or 6. I don't remember much of it, but I remember it was a pile of shit. The brakes liked to go out down steep hills.
She then got this Odyssey, which to this day is the only minivan I'll ever like. She got rid of it a few years before I learned how to drive though, and got this-
2012 Honda Fit S. It was an automatic, but It was a fun (but slow) car for me to learn on. My parents gave it to my brother as a graduation gift last summer though, and I finally bought my own car.
1993 Sentra SE-R. I might be biased, but it's my favorite.

1994 Nissan Sentra
This color, the bumper was so rusted that it was held on by a screw providing outwards pressure, a starter that slowly deteriorated until it made an awful grinding sound, 1.6L automatic, auto seatbelts. I once got it to 105 MPH (170 km/h) & it took about ten minutes to brake (no ABS). When we got rid of it the poor thing was leaking brake fluid. Fun car though.
& 1999 Chevrolet S10
Also this color. 2.2L Auto. Made it to 185k before a blown head gasket killed it.

My mom bought a new car in 1991. A Chevrolet Corsica LT 3.1 V6 with the Z52 Handling Package. Basically, Chevrolet discontinued the Corsica LTZ (the sporty model) in 1990, so for 1991 on, they offered its parts on standard LT models. My mom's Corsica was identical to this, down to the tinted windows:
I was born in 1989, so I literally grew up in that car. One time, I locked the keys in it when it was running. Then, I ran my bike into it and scratched the hell out of the bumper. I also accidentally sat on a stray Skittle in the backseat and squished it right into the cloth. Mom wasn't happy. It had a cassette player (factory CD was literally the only option it didn't have), and mom always let me load the tapes. I thought it was super cool. Then, in 1998, mom decided she needed an SUV to drive me to soccer practice in. So, my stepdad drove the Corsica as a work car and my mom got a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with the 5.2 V8. It looked just like this, even the color.
That thing would haul some serious ass. I don't recall ever being in a faster SUV. My mom was a ridiculously fast driver, so she winded that V8 out on a daily basis.
Then, gas prices shot up and my mom and stepdad bought a brand new car in 2000. A 2000 Toyota Corolla CE.
It was boring and slow and since it was new, my parents were way too protective of it.
My mom passed away in 2001, and to this day, every time I see a Corsica, I am reminded of her. I had happy memories with that car since my stepdad wasn't in the picture yet when my mom got it. My dad passed away in 1991, so my mom had bought the Corsica to drive on her longer commute (she had moved her and I closer to my grandma so she could help out with me). My dumb stepdad sold the Corsica right after mom passed, and I still miss it. It had 175,000 hard miles on it at that time and it still ran great. That 3.1 V6 was a beast. I want a Corsica someday, to fix up in memory of my mom.

no pics because iPhone, but 89 Camry, 97 Camry and then 04 Matrix. Added on a 11 Prius. See a trend here? Never seen my parents have a different brand car, except the 80-something Sentra (or Stanza?) we had till 97 that I don't really remember.

curious how many of your family's rides are what we rented when we visited Europe over multiple trips in my childhood (that's the Taunus, BX and Rekford, plus I had an Omega on a trip as an adult).
My family's cars (through to when I flew the nest are)...

Oldsmobile Delta 88 Royale
Pontiac Catalina, 6000 STE and Bonneville
Saab 9000 CD turbo
Oldsmobile Cutlass Brougham
Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme
Oldsmobile Cutlass Salon
Cadillac Cimarron
Chevrolet Monza Town Coupe
Pontiac Phoenix
Chevrolet Corvette (a 1980 California spec car...the worst vette ever made)

Hey, you should be glad about the Vanette's weakness. The US models came with a bigger engine (that only barely fit) and tended to catch on fire. Nissan bought all of them back from owners and crushed them because the problem was unfixable.

To me it seems really weird that you could buy a new Pontiac Phoenix in the same year as the SAAB 9000 came out. That must have looked weird if they were on the lot together.

True. Conveniently they almost never were on the lot together. When the 9000 debuted, GM were not yet involved, so US Saab dealers were usually small, weird and unusual...much like the cars they'd been selling.

In the beginning, we had a Oldsmobile Trofeo, an '85 CJ7, and a '45 Willys Jeep. After that we got rid of those we got an XJ and a then new '96 Ram 1500. When we got rid of those we got an '84 Chevy and a Volvo 740 TD. Then a Chrysler LHS for a very short time. After that a '99 Kia Sportage and a Volvo 240 wagon(still have that, just not driveable). Then we got a Volvo 850 Turbo lemon, that we traded it and the Kia for an '05 Impala. Then we had that and the 240. When the 240 started puking oil, we bought an '02 Trailblazer. Then we got rid of the Impala for what we have now, a 2009 Pontiac Vibe GT. The '02 Trailblazer went away for an '08 Ram 1500. In between the last two I got my first, and only, my 4Runner. Somewhere in there we had an early 90's Bonneville and a late 80's K5 Blazer.
